Very Nice Movie-Film

I really wanted my first post to be about a sophisticated film.  A film with a strong cast, a complicated but thrilling storyline, great character development and excellent cinematography. Maybe the screenplay was adapted from a play or a novel., you know, an altogether classy affair.

In the end, I chose to disregard my original intentions and decided to watch Borat instead.

I hated this movie.... not! See what I did there? This was a first time viewing. (Late to the game as usual.) In fact, it was the first time I'd seen Sacha Baron Cohen in a lead role in any movie, having missed out on the Ali G craze where he earned his stripes harrassing celebrities. After seeing Borat, there is no doubt that the man is the undisputed king of making a tit out of the unsuspecting public.

Watching this film was pretty good timing on my part. It should be a really good introduction to Sacha Baren Cohen films prior to the release of "The Dictator" which judging by the promotion alone, is going to be another monster of a film.

There are many highlights in this film including Borat's meeting with the feminists, his stay at the Jewish B&B and his singing of the "Kazakhstani national anthem" to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner. However, the this film reached its comedic zenith when Borat visits the etiquette coach. There are so many quotable quotes in that scene alone.

"I've recently retired." "You are retard? ..... It's very good you..eh allow retard to eat with you in same place."

How Cohen delivers such ridiculous lines while maintaining a deadpan facial expression, I will never know and his abillity to to refer to an earlier joke is on a par with Dara O'Briain. "Why you call police? Has the retard escaped?" You have to bow down to the master. He makes Dom Joly and Johnny Knoxville look like amateurs in the pranking the public game.

I was pleasantly suprised with Borat. After a shaky start where I thought it was going to be another over-hyped film in the "stupid-comedy" genre (Team America being a prime example), it recovered and I found Borat's on screen antics hilarious. Sure, the humour is crude and slightly racist but just roll with it people. Not recommend it for the easily offended.

Thank you for read my blog. I hope you like. Dziekuje.
